Australian universities rate highly in World research ranking
The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) for 2015 has recently been announced and includes twenty Australian and two New Zealand universities in it's top 500 list. The ranking is measured by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and orders universities around the world based on the amount and quality of research produced in the last year.
The methodology takes into account many aspects of research at the universities, from the number of alumni and staff who have won nobel prizes or field medals, researchers who've been cited in other papers, as well as research output of each university, which is quantified by the number of papers that are published in leading academic journals.
Universities around the world are considered in the ranking, and Australian universities have featured ever since the first publication in 2003, but this year many of the universities have crept up the list, and there are now twenty Australian and two New Zealand universities in the list.
