Andra is an Indonesian student currently in her final year of the Master of Human Resources Management at Murdoch University’s Perth campus. Describing herself as a people person, Andra chose to study the Master of Human Resource Management because it closely aligned with who she is as a person and what she loves to do.

"I chose to study the Master of Human Resource Management because my background is in hotel management and I wanted to further my study in this field. I have several friends who studied at Murdoch and I received good feedback from them and it is price competitive.

"I really enjoy listening to my classmates having in-depth discussions in class, as it’s these discussions that help me to broaden my understanding of a range of subjects. Getting to know these people from different cultures, and meeting people from different professions and of different ages, allows me to expose myself to different kinds of point of views and that helps me to learn.

"I did have a good experience with one of the team members from Student Support during a time when I was struggling with my studies. I actually spoke to the lady and she helped me out throughout the semester and I never felt judged. She actually kind of empowered me through ‘you can do this’, ‘let’s do this together’ and that’s what actually helped me to overcome and helped me to finish my semester. Often people from my culture are afraid to ask for help, as asking for help can be perceived as being incompetent and shameful. Murdoch taught me that it is okay to ask for help and the university really encourages its students to seek help if they’re struggling.

"My advice to people who are coming here to study at Murdoch would be to just get out of your comfort zone, meet different kinds of people, dare to ask and dare to mingle with people who are not similar to you."
