Andrew Thompson

Andrew is studying Master of Management at Sydney University

“I first thought about studying abroad when I returned from travelling. I’d missed the intake for most European institutions, and I was not able to find graduate work that suited me. During my travels I’d made friends with Australians who lived mostly in Sydney. Now I’m living in Annandale, a great suburb in Sydney’s inner west. It’s close enough to walk to uni and to get the bus into the city, and quiet enough to feel a little like I’m back in the country. Sydney is a great place to live.

“As for Sydney University, it has a great reputation, a great variety of departments, and it looks like it’s been dismantled from Oxford and rebuilt on the other side of the world. I’m studying Master of Management, which is aimed at providing a broad range of skills for those wishing to take manager  roles in the future. I’m in a small group of 20 students – a major attraction for me as it’s a very interactive setting, and the course has very good relationships with organisations such as Deloitte.

“One great thing was how easy I found it to settle in. I’ll admit the first month was a teething process; starting the course, finding a place to live – plus it took me a while to understand the humour. If they make fun of you, they like you. And don’t be shocked when they swear on TV on the 8am breakfast show.

“If I were you, I’d give Australia my full consideration. And if you apply, use Study Options. It will save you time, effort and money!”
