Sara Al-Bazaz

Sara did a postgraduate Tester Semester in finance and accounting at the University of Sydney in 2017

I was studying a Master of Finance and Accounting in London when I decided that I wanted to study abroad for a semester. My UK university did not have any exchange partnerships for my degree, so I was told that if I wanted to go abroad, I’d have to organise it myself. The process wasn’t straightforward and I had some rejections before I found Study Options who helped me.

“I wanted to study overseas to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone. I had already studied in Oxford and London, I wanted to broaden my horizons and so looked for options in Australia and the US. I ended up getting two offers, one from the University of Melbourne and the other from the University of Sydney. I chose Sydney and it was the best decision I made.

“It was a privilege to study at Sydney because of the high quality of their accounting and finance course; it is ranked in the top 50 in the world. The University values diversity and engagement in a great way. Studying at Australia’s oldest university, which combines a great academic reputation with remarkable teaching and research methods, was a real accomplishment for me.

“I really enjoyed the diversity in Sydney. The social life was amazing and people very open. Living so far away from home greatly improved my life perspective, I was exposed to different cultures and backgrounds. Studying abroad develops your independence, gives you a chance to experience different styles of education and allows you to meet lifelong friends. I cannot recommend this experience highly enough, and I am sure that anyone going to Sydney will have an amazing time there, just like I did.”
