Curtin is a dynamic, innovative university. It is Western Australia’s largest university with some 42,500 students, including over 9,700 onshore international students. Curtin has developed strong, long-term partnerships with nearly 400 institutions in over 40 countries, and conducts offshore degree programmes in countries including Singapore, Malaysia, China and Hong Kong. The University has a strong focus on delivering education with an international perspective, preparing students for work within the global market.
A Leader in Education
Curtin prides itself on its commitment to education and excellence. The University was the first in the state to offer degree level courses in film and television, furniture design, and fashion and textile design. It recently became the first university in Western Australia to be accredited by the IAA (Institute of Actuaries Australia) making it only the fifth university in Australia to have an accredited actuarial science degree. Actuaries are specialists in financial mathematics and statistics and are crucial to the banking, insurance, investment, and finance sectors.
Curtin offers a world-class MBA through the Graduate School of Business (GSB) in Perth’s central business district. In 2008, the MBA was one of only four MBA courses in Australia to be ranked in the top 100 in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). GSB is in the centre of Perth, and, as the only permanent campus in the CBD, attracts many professionals from business, government and the not-for-profit sectors.
Curtin offers an idyllic learning lifestyle. In addition to enjoying the great weather and relaxed lifestyle of Perth, students can access a huge range of sporting and social activities as well as University Guild clubs.

The idea of studying in Australia initially came to me when Study Options did a presentation to my year at college. I’d applied for a place in London already, but was very enthusiastic about studying abroad. I got in touch with Study Options and they sent me heaps of information. I applied to two Australian unis.
“In June 2008 my family and I visited Perth – I jumped at the chance to check out Curtin. Turning up without any notice we were greeted by really friendly staff and given a tour of the design building (where my degree would be based) and the campus accommodation. I’d visited UK universities and seen their campus housing, so I was shocked by how gorgeous the accommodation at Curtin was! Walking around I could see BBQ pits which I was told were for anybody to use – I could already imagine myself there with a group of friends!
“I’m really enjoying my course. Photography is my main passion and Australia offers vast amounts of contrasts to work with, from the city to the ocean and desert. I have done lots of things here which I don’t think would have been possible if I had gone to uni in the UK – like being able to go to the beach! There is a big mix of cultures here and everyone is very accepting. I’ve met people from all over the world and it’s really interesting to learn about their countries and cultures.
“I still can’t believe I’m living here. I’m always saying to my girls: ‘Guess what?! We’re in Australia!’ getting butterflies all over again, going round with a massive grin on my face. This is an opportunity of a lifetime. I’d say, follow your dreams and don’t let anyone put you off because ‘it’s really far away’. Everyone is just a call or an email away.”
