Massey is one of New Zealand's largest universities in terms of student numbers, with nearly 38,000 total enrolments. It has an 80-year tradition of academic excellence across a wide range of disciplines following its early recognition as New Zealand's premier institution for agricultural and horticultural teaching and research. Today, the University is a progressive and dynamic multi-campus entity, well regarded for its innovation and ability to provide programmes that meet the needs of domestic and international students.
Massey's campuses are located in Palmerston North, Auckland and Wellington. The original campus is in the thriving provincial city of Palmerston North; the Auckland campus is just 20 minutes from the CBD and five minutes from North Shore's beaches. The Wellington campus is in the centre of the city.
Massey has five Colleges: Business, Creative Arts; Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Sciences, which offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. They are also home to more than 1,000 PhD students.
The University supports research in all Colleges through specialised institutes and 56 research centres which attract external funding each year. The application of the latest research findings is common to all degrees. Massey is regarded internationally as a leader in many applied science research fields and is home to New Zealand's most powerful computer.
As part of exacting value from research, Massey is active in commercialisation and recent breakthrough technology, developed by the Massey Riddet Centre, will see New Zealand take a lead in the rapidly growing global market for omega-3 enriched foods. The Hopkirk Research Institute on the Palmerston campus houses the largest concentration of scientists working in the domain of animal health in the southern hemisphere.
Courses of particular interest include aviation, agricultural and horticultural science, business, communication, design, education, environmental health science, engineering, food science and technology, humanities and social sciences, human nutrition and health, information sciences, music, nursing, science, sport management, exercise science, veterinary science, resources and environmental planning.
International students at Massey find a warm, friendly, place to study and an intellectual climate in which they are encouraged to excel. Our philosophy is to help you prepare for career challenges with courses that are relevant, innovative and flexible. Each of the campuses provides a full range of support systems for international students, including academic advisors and mentoring systems, learning support, computer labs, clubs and societies, health and counselling services, and full recreational facilities. International Student Support staff are the first point of contact for students and will help with accommodation and liaison with the University Colleges.
