It’s designed to give students the chance to spend one or two semesters of their degree in Perth, earning academic credit which is then transferred back to their home university. Study Abroad students have a wide choice of subjects, enabling them to meet the requirements of their home degree but also to deepen and/or broaden their educational experience.
Murdoch also offers summer courses with transferable academic credit. Tropical Marine Biology runs from mid-June to early July and has two weeks of fieldwork in the beautiful marine parks of Coral Bay. Wanju Boodjah (Welcome to Country) is a five-week course in June and July that covers all areas of indigenous Australian culture.
“I chose to study in Perth over Melbourne or Sydney for lots of reasons. The weather is amazing, the Murdoch campus is between Fremantle and Perth and is very close to the beach; life is cheaper and people are laid-back.
“Academically I’ve found the veterinary science programme challenging, stressful and enjoyable – all at the same time! The university lecturers are all of a very high standard and what I’ve thought really pleasing is their willingness to go beyond the call of duty to make sure that students understand the material.
“I chose to study at Murdoch University in particular because its veterinary science programme is recognised by the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) as well as the UK association – I’m hoping that this, along with the outstanding reputation Murdoch has for health sciences, will stand me in good stead once I graduate.
“The Murdoch university campus is awesome. Bush Court, Walter’s Café, Murdoch Tavern and the department common rooms are constantly teeming with life. What tipped the balance for me about coming here was the friendliness of the Murdoch staff and their willingness to help. There are a lot of international students here at the University and everyone is very understanding. Especially when homesickness kicks in – it does happen, but not for long, trust me!
“I’m now half-way through my vet science degree. It’s a very demanding course, to say the least, but it is challenging and fun. We have a referral clinic and a farm on campus and the lecturers are very approachable.
“Perth and the area have so much to offer. Whether you like sports, dancing, martial arts, sightseeing, bush walking, surfing or just socialising, it’s all here.”
