Murdoch was established in 1973 as a research university. It is 20 minutes by car from Perth, and 10 minutes from the port of Fremantle. It is committed to the pursuit of excellence and has an international reputation for quality teaching and research. Murdoch is proud to have some of the best-qualified academic staff in Australia. Almost 70 per cent hold a PhD, compared to the Australian average of 50 per cent. The University also prides itself on the caring attitude of its staff, who give students the extra support and attention they need to succeed.

As a highly ranked teaching campus, we can certainly offer the best education possible. But teaching is not the only factor in deciding where to go to university. Where you live, the friends you make, and the courses you study are just as important to us as they are to you. Murdoch will help you to make the most of your time at university, and offers opportunities to make it truly memorable and worthwhile.

Kadie O'Byrne is currently studying Bachelor of Veterinary Science at Murdoch

“I'm from Jersey, so I had no option bu tto leave home to go to university. I decided on Perth because I had been before on holiday and loved it. It's such a lovely, clean city and eveyone is so friendly.

"Murdoch has a highly ranked veterinary school accredited with the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) as well as with the RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) in the UK. The facilities are excellent - there is a farm on campus - and there's lots of hands-on experience right from the start of the course. It is challenging, but it's enjoyable. The lecturers are fantastic and go to great lengths to make sure you're understanding everything.

"The University is in a perfect spot, just outside Perth and next to Fremantle, a bustling harbour town with shops, clubs, pubs and parks. Public transport is good, so it's easy to get around. Living here is like living in a holiday! There are some great spots to see in Western Australia - in the south there are wineries, great surf and beaches, and in the north amazing deserts, beaches and fishing. You are never lost for something to do!

"My advice to anyone looking into doing this would be: Do your homework very carefully. Look at the course breakdowns in detail, to get an idea of how much you will enjoy one degree programme over another. It plays a key role in finding the right university for you.

"Murdoch's campus is great, with libraries, a food court, the Tavern and greens for enjoying lunch in the sun. I couldn't ask anything more of Murdoch or Perth; they both have so much to offer. I'd definitely recommend studying here! There are also great international student services to help you settle into your new home, being as it is so far away from your last!"
