UQ is a founding member of the Group of Eight (Go8), an elite group of Australian universities that undertakes 70 per cent of all Australian university research. It is one of only three Australian members of Universitas 21, a select international alliance of research-intensive universities. In 2009, The Times Higher Education Supplement ranked UQ 41st in a list of the world’s top 200 universities.
Excellence in Teaching
UQ excels in teaching and was recently ranked in the top five by an Australian Government table ranking Australian teaching quality. The University has won more Australian Awards for university teaching than any other.

UQ’s Student Services offer an integrated service in areas including careers and employment, learning assistance, counselling, disability support, financial services, and international student support.
"I looked at all the Group of Eight universities and saw UQ had the perfect combination of location, facilities and reputation, which is why I chose to study here. Brisbane is small enough to be personal, but big enough to give you space to achieve. The flexibility that I have in my degree programme here is very different to British universities. I really enjoy being able to pick and choose my subjects. I think the modular assessment mode used by UQ is totally different from British universities because grades are accumulated throughout the duration of my degree. I believe my degree will help me find a job because the knowledge I've learnt will stay with me for life and the skills I've picked up - such as essay writing, presentation skills, developing arguments and so on - will be easily transferrable."
