Master of Teaching at the University of Tasmania
Master of Teaching at the University of Tasmania
The Master of Teaching course at the University of Tasmania is designed for students who have already completed a bachelors degree in a subject other than teaching to complete a teaching qualification in just two years. An MTeach in Australia is equivalent to the UK PGCE qualification, and enables you to teach professionally.
The course aims to build upon existing communication and interaction skills so that, on graduating, you will feel confident working with pupils of diverse abilities, interests and backgrounds. The course content and practical classroom experience, which is fully integrated into the course, provides theoretical and practical opportunities for graduates to practise what they learned in a safe and supportive environment.
Successful completion of the MTeach gives graduates a professional teaching qualification that prepares them for teaching, not only in Tasmania, but anywhere in the world. Graduates of the Master of Teaching will obtain teacher registration through the Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board.
The Master of Teaching can be taken in Primary (Prep to Grade 6) or Secondary (Grades 7 – 12) Education.
The Master of Teaching (Secondary) requires students to choose two curriculum (teaching) areas to teach. The curriculum areas you can choose are determined by what subjects you studied during your undergraduate degree. Specialisations are English-Literacy; Mathematics; General Sciences; Social Sciences; Arts (Drama, Visual Art, Music, Dance, Multi-media) and LOTE - Languages Other Than English.
Where will this course take me?
Graduates of the Master of Teaching will obtain teacher registration through the Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board and will be qualified to teach in public and private sector schools Australia-wide. Graduates are also highly sought in other employment sectors, including communication-based jobs in industry training, and public relations.
