Juris Doctor/Grad Dip Legal Practice at the University of Newcastle
This programme at the University of Newcastle is designed for students looking for admission into legal practice in Australia. The two courses are studied concurrently, allowing students to develop high level academic and legal skills while also providing practical, real world experience. JD students have direct involvement with the University’s Legal Centre, working on real cases and providing services to the community. They obtain valuable in-depth, hands-on experience by participating in customised Legal Clinics exploring natural resources law, public and interest law; refugee and migration law, criminal law, and consumer credit.
Applicants should have a bachelors degree in a subject other than law. Completion of the JD will lead to admission to practice law in NSW. Other requirements may have to be met before a law graduate can practice as a lawyer in NSW. Please obtain details of these from the Legal Profession Admission Board. If you wish to practice in another jurisdiction, you must consult the relevant professional body.
Scholarships are available for students of the Juris Doctor programme, find out more here.
