Change to Australian student visas
The Australian Department of Immigration recently announced a change to the structure of an Australian student visa. The visa now automatically includes a work permit element, which allows a student to work up to 20 hours per week during term time and as much as they like during holidays. Previously, students had to apply for this separately once they'd started their course. So, all good from a paperwork point of view but remember, you can still only start working on a student visa once you've commenced your course of study.
The fee for applying for a student visa has been increased slightly - from AU$420 to AU$450. For more information, see the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship website at www.immi.gov.au
